The Eric and Wendy Schmidt Transformative Technology Fund

A novel way of tracking nitrogen through organisms, soil, and water; a simplified quantum computer; and a “nanolab” that can observe a living cell from within are among the projects supported by the Schmidt Fund. Created by Eric Schmidt ’76 and his wife, Wendy, the fund supports the development of innovative new technologies that have the potential to enable significant scientific advances.

“While progress in science and engineering can be catalyzed by entirely new theoretical insights, it is more often the case that revolutionary advances spring from the arrival on the scene of new technologies that allow investigators to explore unresolved questions with new tools, or to ask previously unapproachable questions.”
